Ajay Sharma, MD
Ajay Nair Sharma, MD, MBA, is the Director of Dermatologic Surgery at Boston University. After earning his bachelor's degree at UC Davis, Dr. Sharma completed his MD/MBA degrees and dermatology residency training at UC Irvine, where he served as Chief Resident, before pursuing a fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology at the Massachusetts General Hospital. With an extensive leadership background, Dr. Sharma has applied his experience in healthcare management and policy to provide a data-driven approach to the most pressing issues within dermatology. He has served on the Boards of Directors of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and the American College of Mohs Surgery, and has founded two non-profit organizations, with particular interests in healthcare access and education. Dr. Sharma's research has focused on the epidemiology of rare skin cancers, predictive analytics for surgical outcomes, and systematic reviews of oncologic treatments, with over 100 peer-reviewed publications and presentations. His current work involves the objective assessment and grading of scars, microgravity's effect on the skin, as well as the skin microbiome in dermatologic surgery. In his free time, Dr. Sharma enjoys working as a medical artist, playing soccer, and public speaking.
