Dr. Omar Ibrahimi discussed the latest skin tightening device on the market—a non-energy-based tissue microcoring device which was co-developed by dermatologist Dr. Rox Anderson and plastic surgeon Dr. Jay Austen at Mass General Hospital and The Wellman Center for Photomedicine. This technology punches out thousands of tiny full thickness skin cores which allow for improved tightening and wrinkle removal. Dr. Ibrahimi goes into the details about the making of the device, how a treatment is performed and shares some before and after pictures. This new technology offers the ability to remove a significant amount of damaged, lax skin without concern of scarring and shows promising results for tissue tightening. |

The talk then dove into a detailed step by step guide on Dr. DiGiorgio’s approach and technique including management of side effects and complications. Several cases were covered, including before and afters, and Dr. DiGiorgio’s expert opinion on when to use threads alone vs in combination with other aesthetic modalities. |

Although we cannot completely erase scars, laser-based treatments can allow us to come very close! Dr. Victor Ross gave a comprehensive talk covering how one can use the characteristics of a scar to create a treatment algorithm using various energy based devices. He discussed his approach to treating various types of scars including surgical, acne, traumatic, keloid, and atrophic scars, using a multimodal approach. Through various anecdotal cases, he also shares how to select good candidates for treatment and setting realistic expectations with patients. Lastly, Dr. Ross shares newer, more innovative techniques on the horizon for treating scars. The slow, remediate and rehabilitative approach to treating scars was emphasized. |

She emphasized a combination approach to tackling this chronic skin disorder and discussed how to combine various forms of treatment including sun protection, topical hydroquinone and non-hydroquinone lightening agents, chemical peels, energy-based devices, as well as oral medications. |

Dr. Tina Alster bestowed this year’s 2022 Richard E. Fitzpatrick Award! Dr. Richard Fitzpatrick was a pioneer in the field of lasers and cosmetics, and one of the founders of the Masters of Aesthetics Meeting. He was an innovator and first to perform Co2 resurfacing. This award was given in his name to Dr. Alster. Dr. Tina Alster is a world renowned laser and cosmetic dermatologist who has mentored hundreds of dermatologists. She is one of the early innovators of our field, a published author and expert, and a recipient of several previous accolades and awards. Dr. Alster shared her journey in lasers and cosmetics and how all the challenges she came across have shaped her successful and legendary career as founder of Washington Institute of Dermatologic Laser Surgery.
