Dr. Rodan received her undergraduate degree in history from the University of Virginia, her medical degree from the University of Southern California School of Medicine, and her dermatology residency at Stanford from 1984-87 she was a resident and chief resident of dermatology at Stanford University School of Medicine. She has been an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology at Stanford University School of Medicine from 1990 until present.
For more than 35 years Dr. Rodan was a practicing cosmetic dermatologist in the SF Eastbay, retiring in June 2023. With Dr. Kathy Fields, Dr. Rodan created Proactiv® Solution, a medicated acne treatment and prevention system. Partnering with Guthy-Renker, Proactiv lauched in 1995 on infomercials, becoming the #1 acne brand in the world, eventually selling to Nestle Skin Health in 2016. In 2003, Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields founded Rodan + Fields, a regimen- based skincare company with products to treat common skincare concerns, such as, sun damage, aging skin, acne and sensitivity. In 2004, they sold their company to Estee Lauder Corp., distributing their products in department store nationwide. In 2007, after witnessing the decline of traditional retail and the rise of social media, they bought their company back, re-launching Rodan + Fields using a disruptive direct selling, model designed to reach customers where they live and shop via mobile and social networks. Rodan + Fields became the #1 premium skincare brand in No. America. Drs. Rodan and Fields authored two books “UNBLEMISHED,” a self-help manual for treating and caring for acne prone skin and the national bestseller “Write Your Skin a Prescription for Change” a go-to guide for achieving healthy and youthful skin. |
