Dr. Kimberly Butterwick received her dermatology training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and her Bachelor of Science from Stanford University. She is board-certified in Dermatology and has passed the board examination for the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgeons.
For over 30 years, Dr. Butterwick’s cosmetic dermatology practice in San Diego has been on the forefront of injectables, lasers, energy devices, and body contouring with devices and tumescent liposuction. She has authored or co-authored over 35 peer reviewed articles and 19 book chapters, participated in more than 60 clinical studies, and has given over 400 academic presentations. Additionally, Dr. Butterwick was co-founder of and actually named the skin care line, SkinMedica. Known for her comprehensive examinations as well as a meticulous technique and artistic-eye, Dr. Butterwick is committed to providing patients with the most advanced techniques to rejuvenate and enhance their natural beauty. In 2004, Dr. Butterwick was selected by the American Academy of Dermatology to perform the first-ever live demonstration on facial fillers at their meeting and she has been invited every year to demonstrate her acclaimed techniques to thousands of the top dermatologists in the world. Dr. Butterwick has also directed numerous teaching workshops in filler and laser techniques. Additionally, Dr. Butterwick is renowned for her expertise in tumescent liposculpture. Participating in the first U.S. workshop in 1993, Dr. Butterwick has extensive experience with thousands of patients. Several of her pivotal studies and concepts on tumescent liposculpture have been published and she has served on The Council of Liposuction Safety for the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and the Liposuction Task Force for the American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Butterwick has served on the boards of three dermatologic professional organizations - the ASDS, WDS, and the AAD as well as the AAAHC, having been co-director of an out-patient dermatologic surgicenter for over 20 years. She has participated in and chaired many committees and educational meetings for each dermatologic organization. Dr Butterwick’s passion for mentorship has been evidenced by her participation in the WDS and ASDS mentorship and Future Leaders Network programs, her service as faculty for many resident educational programs and her work as associate director of two Fellowship Training programs in her office for the ASDS since 2013 and the AACS from 2007-2013. She was honored for this work as the WDS Mentor of the Year in 2022. Other honors include the AMWA Award for academic excellence, the Excellence in Education award by the ASDS, and a Presidential Citation from the AAD. Her outside interests include hiking, reading good novels, travel, enjoying the company of family and friends and spoiling Lola – her mini golden doodle. |
