Patricia Richey, MD
Patricia Richey MD, FAAD, FACMS is a double fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon and cosmetic dermatologist. She is also board-certified in both Dermatology and Mohs micrographic surgery. After graduating from Georgetown University magna cum laude, she attended Georgetown University School of Medicine, where she had been accepted as part of the highly competitive “Early Assurance Program.” She completed her dermatology residency at the University of Iowa and was unanimously chosen by the faculty as sole chief resident. She then remained at the University of Iowa for the fiercely selective Mohs micrographic surgery and dermatologic oncology fellowship. Following her Mohs surgery fellowship, she was chosen by Dr. Rox Anderson and Dr. Mathew Avram for the prestigious clinical and research fellowship in laser and dermatologic surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital/Wellman Center for Photomedicine and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Anderson, the inventor of pulsed dye laser, Fraxel laser, laser hair removal, and laser tattoo removal, recruited her during her laser fellowship to remain on staff at the Wellman Center, in order to continue her clinical research.

Dr. Richey’s clinical and research interests include Mohs surgery, skin cancer, cosmetic dermatology and laser. She has authored many peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters and is regularly invited to speak on dermatologic surgery, cosmetic and laser dermatology, and medical innovation at national medical conferences. In 2023, she was named the winner of the “Dr. Richard E. Fitzpatrick Clinical Research and Innovations Award” by the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. The same year, she was selected as one of eight “Mohs Surgeons Leading the Future” by the American College of Mohs Surgery. Since 2024, she has served on the American College of Mohs Surgery Newsletter Committee and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery Research Grant Committee, which she currently co- chairs. Dr. Richey is a passionate mentor, having taught dermatology residents at Boston University, Harvard Medical School, University of Iowa, University of Missouri and Ohio State University. She was most recently the Director of Mohs Surgery at Boston University, where she also practiced cosmetics and spearheaded an intensive hands-on procedural training system of dermatology residents, for which the residents named her the “Teacher of the Year” in 2025.

In the spring of 2026, Dr. Richey is opening the doors to her own dermatology practice in her hometown of Chevy Chase, MD. As one of only several physicians in the country who can state they are fellowship-trained in Mohs surgery and Harvard fellowship-trained in laser and cosmetic dermatologic surgery, she is absolutely thrilled to bring her expertise to the DMV. Richey Dermatology: Laser and Skin Cancer Center will specialize in Mohs surgery, lasers, cosmetic and medical dermatology and will aim to provide exceptional and patient-centered personalized care.
